Myanmar is a country stricken by violence.
As a result of 69 years of civil war, it stays as one of the least developed countries in the world. Its education and healthcare infrastructure is almost non-existent and its people are growing poorer every day. Children of these poor families, along with orphans of the war, are sent to local charities like orphanages or monastic education centers. They are raised separately from their parents and a lot of them aren’t able to go back. 50% of the children under five are living below poverty line and 30% are suffering from severe malnutrition.
These all mean that Myanmar is losing its future to this endless downward spiral.
At Mudita association, we believe prosperity comes through peace and understanding and these virtues need to be adopted at an early age.
We decided the best way to establish these qualities is to build a kindergarten based on the famously effective Waldorf teaching method. Our project would not only serve as a kindergarten, but rather a self-sufficient complex with classrooms, an organic farm, accommodation for volunteers and resident teachers, a playground, a computer learning room, a meditation hall, a clinic and service buildings.
After a long and diligent research, we came to an agreement with Htet Eain Gu monastery and recieved a 12.5 acre land donation near the shores of the beautiful Inle Lake. Our association also recruited local teachers and funded them for a year-long teacher training program.
It was the best possible combination! The kindergarten complex, adjacent to a communal care centre like this would provide exemplary education as well as health care, food and shelter to these poor children.
With the help of our donors and volunteers from everywhere in the world, we started building our dream towards the end of 2017.
As we progressed, more and more people started believing in us. Volunteers flocked to the site, new donations were received and even the local people started giving whatever they have, sometimes their work on the field, and other times a hundred flower seedlings for our organic farm!
We are currently working full time to realize our dream, but we still have a long way to go. If you want to help us push our boundaries and achieve something that will change the future of these children, the time is now. Please consider donating through this secure link, or becoming a volunteer.
All our projects are based on two pillars; Our donors and volunteers. We simply cannot do this without your help, and the best way to help us is to work with us! Please take a look at our volunteering programs by clicking the link below and join us if you can.
